Winnie Mae Wilson was born on August 27, 1927, in the Clear Creek Community near Flynn, Texas. She was the third of four children born to Robert Wilson and Dora Grimes Wilson. Winnie went home to be with her Savior, Christ Jesus, on August 25, 2023, at Texas Loving Care in Madisonville, Texas, in the presence of family and TLC staff.
Winnie was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph; her son, Jonathon; and her granddaughter, Casey Hodges Peeler; as well as her parents and siblings, Pauline Wilson Noble, Robert Wilson, Jr. and Martha Wilson Jeter.
Winnie was baptized in Clear Creek after accepting Jesus Christ as her Savior while attending Clear Creek Baptist Church. She attended Flynn schools through her junior year, but then completed her senior year and graduated from Hot Wells High School in San Antonio, Texas in 1945. After high school, Winnie trained to be a licensed beautician in Palestine, Texas where she was reacquainted with Adolph Hodges from Flynn.
Winnie and Adolph were married on November 1, 1947, and then established their home in Oakwood, Texas. Both were active members of Memorial Baptist Church in Oakwood. Winnie worked at the Oakwood State Bank for over thirty-five years. Later in life she also served on the school board for Oakwood I.S.D.
Winnie lived in Oakwood for seventy-two years, sixty-eight of those years in the same home. Health issues lead to a relocation to Bryan/College Station and then later to the Hilltop Lakes community until August 2022. Winnie resided at Texas Loving Care for the past year.
Winnie is survived by her son, David and his wife, Kari; daughter-in-law, Susan Hodges and four of her grandchildren, Will Hodges and wife, Jana, Erin Hodges Gorham and husband, Rob, Eli Hodges and Lauren Hodges Yancy and husband, Lance. Winnie was blessed with ten great-grandchildren, Alexander, William, Nathan, Porter, Brandt, Harrison, Mattie Jane, Bennett, Cooper and Calvin.
A funeral service honoring Winnie's life will be held 10 A.M., Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas. Bro. Walter Pickens will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Clear Creek Cemetery in rural Leon County officiated by Bro. Wayne Barrett.
