William Burton Hunter was born in Woodville, Texas July 22, 1936 to John Reddick Hunter and Jewel Pate Hunter. He passed peacefully at his home in Hilltop Lakes, Texas May 28, 2021. Bill Hunter was married to Myra Lou Maywald of Hull Daisetta in 1962 and had three children, Vanice, Russell, and Stephanie. Later he was married to Shirley Lemons Hunter in 1994.
Bill Burt was a graduate of Kirby High School in Woodville, TX in 1954, then Lamar University in 1958. He later received his Masters of Educational Administration from Sam Houston State University in 1970. Bill was a coach, teacher and administrator for 50 years at Whitney, Tidehaven, Hardin, Coldspring, Alief, Grand Saline, Colmesneil, Bruceville-Eddy, Maypearl, and Centerville. He was a “seed planter” for Jesus and the Kingdom of God. He left behind a rippling legacy of positive, spiritual and professional impact with students and associates alike for generations to come. Myra Lou Hunter preceded Coach Hunter in death in 1975. Also preceding Coach Hunter in death are his parents John Reddick Hunter and Jewel Pate Hunter, his sister Shirley and husband Don Willis
He is survived by Shirley Lemons Hunter, wife of 27 years, his children Vanice Chandler of Houston, Russell and Gena Hunter of McGregor, Stephanie Hunter of Plano, stepsons Bick and Jennifer Lemons of Bryan and Lane and Kimberly Lemons of Jackson Tennessee. Grandchildren Mandy and Jason Graham, Chelsea and Matt Hambrick, Cameron and Brianna Hunter, Joseph and Angeli Chandler, Ann Marie and Anthony Hernandez. Thomas and Stephanie Chandler and Grace, Kate and Benjamin Lemons. His great grandchildren Jaiden, Madi, Gage, Cahnnon, Hunter Lynne and Hayes Russell.. Also survived by his cousin Penny Williams, her husband Butch and his niece Donna Willis.
Services for Coach Hunter will be at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, TX. Visitation is Friday June 4 at 5:30 pm to 7pm. Funeral service is Saturday at 10:30 am. Graveside will follow at Centerville Cemetery.
