Wanda Lea (Hill) Craig

February 13, 1924 — November 29, 2019

Wanda Lea (Hill) Craig was born February 13, 1924 in Flo, Texas and she passed away November 29, 2019 in Irving, Texas surrounded by her loving family.

Ms. Craig was one of nine Hill family siblings born and raised in Leon County as children of Orsamus and Margaret Hill. They lived off the land, loved God and family, and created a deep legacy of character for their future generations to uphold and pursue.

Wanda was a graduate of Centerville High School, and she received a business degree at Tyler Commercial College. She was married for 25 years to William Addison Craig. Together, they raised two children, William Michael Craig and Mary Elaine Craig.

Wanda was a gifted gardener, seamstress, and cook who loved God, her family, and being outdoors in nature. She maintained her year-round garden every season, even into her final year of life. She was a devout Christian, who served God faithfully in every way, even until her dying day, having her quiet time and praying through her prayer list.

Even though she was soft-spoken and socially shy, Wanda had profound inner strength and character. She was hard-working, humble, disciplined, courageous, and full of deep grit. In one day, she could harvest and cook ten pounds of produce from her garden, and without hesitation kill a copperhead that got too close to her with a shovel. She lived alone in a lovely little yellow house for the last 35 years of her life, but she was at peace with her solitude and often told her family “I’m not alone, God is with me.” She loved the verse in 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12, “Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life; to mind your own business and to work with your hands, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.”

The legacy of faith and character Wanda left us will be cherished, upheld, and nourished in the lives of her family and furthermore to the lives they touch. She will be greatly missed.

Wanda is survived by her children – son, William Michael Craig and wife Pat Craig; daughter, Mary Elaine Craig McMinn and husband Don McMinn. She is also survived by her grandchildren - David Craig, Jonathan Craig, Lauren McMinn Clarke, Sarah McMinn; and four great-grandchildren – Tyler Craig, Olivia Craig, Marin Clarke, and Benjamin Clarke. Her brother, James O. Hill, also survives her.

Funeral services will be held at Walters Funeral Home at 10 A.M., Wednesday, December 4th, 2019. She will be buried at Brushy Cemetery alongside her parents and siblings. The Craig family will receive friends Tuesday evening, December 3rd, from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the funeral home.
