Wade, as he was known as to family and friends, was born to Willie Walter and Thelma Lee Watson Burk on February 18th, 1937, in Houston, Texas. He was called home on Wednesday, June 7th, 2017 at the age of 80.
Wade, at one time, was an avid hunter and fisherman. His love for the outdoors took him and his family on many adventures locally and all over North America.
Growing up he spent years in Austin and Los Alamos, New Mexico. He relished his time in New Mexico driving his jeep, exploring and finding Spaniard relics, and loved telling stories about his treasured Indian motorcycle.
After graduation from Austin High School, Wade, headed to Houston where he attended University of Houston studying geology. While at UofH he met the love of his life in Freshman English. He being a 64 football player sat down in the front row right in front of a pretty 54 brunette. On May 30, 1959, he married LaVonne Hicks of Madisonville. They resided in Houston having two daughters, Lisa Gayle Burk and Lani Denise Burk. In 1966, Wade moved his family to Colorado Springs, Colorado where he sat up his insurance adjustment business.
The family returned to Texas in 1975 and settled in Madisonville.
Wade is preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Carl Allen Burk; and daughter and son-in-law, Lani Denise Carlson and husband, Sean.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight (58) years, LaVonne Hicks Burk, of Madisonville; sister, Kay Burk Wright and husband, James of Johnson City; brother, Larry Lee Burk and wife, Helen, of Georgetown; aunt, Judy Burk, of Nacogdoches, Texas; daughter, Lisa Burk Crawford and husband, Craig, of Anchorage, Alaska; grandchildren, Dr. Jackson Wade Crawford and wife, Katherine, of Boulder, Colorado; Claire Delaney Crawford, of League City, Texas; Travis Burk Crawford, of Lubbock, Texas; and Regan Katharine Carlson, of Anchorage, Alaska; also, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A memorial service is planned for Thursday, June 22nd, 2017, at 1PM, at the Madisonville Funeral Home, 1151 East Main Street, Madisonville, Texas 77864.
