Funeral services for Virginia Shatto, 86, will be held at 4 P.M., Saturday, April 28, 2018, at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas. Pastor Darrell Stein will officiate the service and interment will follow in the Centerville Cemetery. A brief visitation will take place Saturday, April 28th from 3 P.M. to service time at the funeral home.
Virginia Marie Shatto was born May 3, 1931, in Centerville, Texas. She was one of eight children born to Aubrey Theron & Maggie May (Watson) Ellis. Virginia graduated from Centerville High School and worked for Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator. She retired in 1984 after thirty-four years, two months and twenty-four days and had resided in the Humble and Corrigan areas before moving back to Centerville in 1989. She became a member of First United Methodist Church in Centerville in 2001.
Virginia enjoyed sports and was a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. She also liked watching golf games on television. Trips to the casinos in Louisiana were also a favorite pastime of Virginia’s, as well as, daily meetings at Dairy Queen for afternoon coffee with friends. Virginia was an excellent cook, and her Hungarian Goulash was a favorite among family members. She enjoyed the company of others and was fun loving person who liked to laugh. She was especially fond of her cats and constantly asked about them after she had moved to Riverwood Healthcare Center in Madisonville.
Virginia passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018, in Madisonville, just eight days shy of her eighty-seventh birthday. She was preceded in death by both of her parents; first husband, Erhardt Albert Endelke; second husband, Albert Raymond Shatto; siblings, Harold D. Ellis, Mildred Ellis, A.T. “Pinkey” Ellis, Jr., Milton Ellis and William T. “Bill” Ellis and nephew, Mike Ellis. Surviving family members are brother, Raymond (Maudie) Ellis of Centerville; sister, Evelyn Ingram of Madisonville; nieces, Jan (Tom) Schulist, Brenda Ellis, Cheryl (John) Lagrone, Janelle (John) Karrer, Rhonda (Johnny) Murff and Lisa (Robert) Cawley and nephews, Harold Lee (Betty) Ellis, Jim (Linda) Ellis and Ray Lynn (Anna) Ellis. Virginia is also survived by numerous great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews, as well as, many friends.
Arrangements are under the direction of Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas.
