Virginia Lee (Kays) Keeling was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma on April 28, 1947, to parents, Fred and Elizabeth Maxine (Pitt) Kays, who were from New Mexico. She graduated from Brazosport High School in Lake Jackson, Texas, and from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. Virginia met her future husband, Mickey Keeling, while attending college. After marrying, they lived in Rolla, St. Louis, and Cape Girardeau, Missouri and Corpus Christi and Houston, Texas. Virginia passed away in Houston, Texas on April 13, 2024.
Virginia was a teacher, girl scout leader, and member of the United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents; infant son, John Michael; sister, Carolyn; twin brother, David; and brother, Jerry.
Surviving family members include beloved husband, Mickey Keeling; daughters, Deborah Lewing and Elizabeth Steiger; son-in-law, Seth Steiger; granddaughters, Nora Grace Steiger and Nayla Steiger; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A funeral service honoring Virginia's life will be held 2 P.M., Monday, April 21, 2025, at Leona Global Methodist Church. Pastor of the church, Rev. John Burchell, will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Leona Cemetery. A brief visitation will take place from 1 P.M. to service time at the church.
Final arrangements are under the direction of Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas.
