Graveside services for Ginger Henkel, age 79, will be held 10 A.M., Friday, September 4, 2020 at Evans Chapel Cemetery in Leona, Texas. Pastor Tuffy Loftin, of the Cowboy Church of Leon County, will officiate the service. A brief visitation will take place prior to the service from 9 A.M. to 10 A.M. at the cemetery.
Virginia Carol Henkel, also known as Ginger, was born to George N. & Ruth (Lathlean) Jones in Deming, New Mexico August 16, 1941. She had lived in Leon County the past ten years, coming from Santa Fe, Texas. Ginger enjoyed yardwork and working in her flowerbeds. She also enjoyed reading. Her greatest passion was caring for the numerous animals she raised throughout her life, including her current four dachshund tenants.
Ginger was preceded in death by both of her parents and beloved son, Michael Scott Hughes. She is survived by sister, Roselyne Gustafson; grandchildren, Scottie, Kristina, Randall, James Arthur “Poggins” & Cassandra Hughes; many great-grandchildren, as well as nephews, Darrell (Lori) Sallee and Wayne (Rusty) Sallee and numerous great nieces & nephews.
Arrangements are under the direction of Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas.
