Velda Fern Price

September 26, 1939 — August 14, 2023

Velda Price passed on to meet our Lord and Savior on August 14, 2023 in Leon County, Texas in her home. She passed of natural causes.

Velda Williams was born September 26, 1939 in Wolf, Oklahoma (Seminole County). She was born to Willie Branion Williams and Edith Rue Edgmon of Wolf, Oklahoma.

Velda attended school in Wolf, completing her high school requirements and marrying Charles Richard Hale on May 26, 1957. She quickly learned what the life of an Air Force wife entails as they ended up in Spokane, WA at Fairchild A.F.B., where the first child, Laura (Gary Harris of Granbury, TX) was born. Their next residence was in Ephrata, WA and Larsen A.F.B. where they welcomed their son, Alan (Laurie Mathers of Canadian, TX), and then a stop in Little Rock A.F.B. where their final child, David (Paige of Abilene, TX) was born. David's birth changed the course of Velda's life and after a dangerous and difficult birth, Velda made the enthusiastic decision to attend nursing school. After a final military move to Dyess A.F.B. in Dec 1968, she enrolled at Mary Meek School of Nursing in conjunction with Hendricks Medical Center in Abilene.

As with most things in her life, she approached this task with a no holds barred and "get it done" attitude.

Upon graduation, she went to work for West Texas Medical Center for several years.

She was eventually remarried to Richard Price of Abilene on February 7, 1987. Mr.Price was a former district attorney for Taylor County.

Facing burnout with criminal law, Richard and Velda made the decision to move to Crockett down in south Texas to help with the Price family ranching operation. Velda helped with the daily work but also took a part time position working as the medical contact at the Texas State Prison in Huntsville in order to follow her passion as the nursing liaison. She was well respected by both prisoners and staff at the prison.

Velda is survived by three children, nine grandchildren and twenty-three great-grand children.

She will be cremated and her ashes spread at the family burial plots in the Wolf County Cemetery in Seminole County.

The family will have a private service of memories at a later date which will not be made public.

Anyone wishing to kindly make donations in remembrance of Velda may give them to the Meals on Wheels of Leon County, Texas.

Arrangements are under the direction of Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas.
