Todd Kent Overton

With heavy hearts, the family of Todd Kent Overton announces that his hard-fought battle with illness is now over. Todd left this world peacefully at home in Buffalo, Texas, surrounded with family on March 10, 2025, at the age of 49. Born on August 27, 1975, in Fort Sumner, New Mexico, Todd was the beloved husband of Kathy Overton; proud father of daughter Kasey, 18, and son Bootz, 16; cherished son of Walter and Mary Sue Overton of Bowie, Texas; and younger brother to Brandon, of Crossroads, Texas. He lived a life full of passion, laughter, and dedication, leaving a profound impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Todd was a devoted husband and family man. He married his beautiful college sweetheart, Kathy, and together they built a beautiful life filled with adventure, laughter, and love. He was a proud father to his two beloved children, Kasey and Bootz, and cherished the time he spent with them. He was always so proud of them and they were his JOY.

Todd was a brilliant biologist whose love for nature and science guided his life's work. A 1994 graduate of Nocona High School and of Texas A&M University in 1998, Todd, with Kathy, founded Overton Fisheries, headquartered south of Buffalo, Texas, where his expertise and vision helped shape the fisheries industry. His entrepreneurial spirit, strong work ethic, and deep understanding of aquatic ecosystems were a testament to his intelligence and love for the natural world.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Todd was a man of many interests. He had a deep love for the outdoors whether he was fly fishing in the waters of Colorado, bay fishing along the Texas coast, or simply enjoying watching the flight of a bald eagle pair over his ponds. He was also a passionate aviation enthusiast, spending countless hours flying model airplanes, a hobby he learned early with his dad, Walter.

Todd was also of a man deep thinking and ideas. He loved discussing politics and philosophy and was always up for a healthy debate. He relished conversations where he could challenge and be challenged, never shying away from sharing his opinions with conviction and wit.

Todd is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Overton; his children, Kasey and Bootz Overton; his parents, Walter and Mary Sue Overton; his mother-In-Law, Brenda Smith; his brother, Brandon Overton, wife, Beverly and nephews, Brandon Jr., wife, Libby and Pvt. Tanner Overton, USMC, along with other beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He also leaves behind his loyal dogs, Sandy and Rusty, whom he adored--and too many cats, whom he merely tolerated.

Todd was welcomed into Heaven by those who passed before him, including his grandparents, Tyne and Florence Overton, Joe and Mildred Meneley, and Kenneth and Isabel Maynard; his father-in-law, Smitty Smith; and his cousin, Steven Strohl.

A memorial service will be held in Todd's honor on March 16, 2025, at 4:00 PM at Overton Fisheries, 19367 IH-45 South, Buffalo, Texas 75831. The service will be officiated by Todd's brother-in-law, Pastor Nathan Graybill; all family and friends are invited to come together, share stories, and celebrate the life of a man whose presence left a lasting impact on so many.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choosing in Todd's name.

Though we grieve his passing, we rejoice in knowing that Todd is now fishing in the eternal waters of Heaven, free from pain and full of joy. He will be forever missed and always remembered.

Final arrangements are under the direction of Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas.
