Funeral services for Timothy Hodges, 74, of Jewett, will be held at 2 P.M., Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas. Interment will follow in the Marquez Cemetery in Marquez, Texas. A public visitation will take place from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M., Monday, January 2nd at the funeral home.
Timothy Travers Hodges was born on March 14, 1942 in Austin, Texas to Osborne Travers & Margaret (Dillon) Hodges. He attended college at ETBU, Mary Hardin Baylor and McClennan Community College. Timothy served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1964. He later worked as a Security Guard for several companies including Pinkerton and the Houston Sports Association, where he worked at sporting events in the Astrodome. Timothy enjoyed collecting model trains, such as the H.O. Scale and G Scale. His mother was a choir director in his childhood church and Timothy developed a love of singing at an early age. He and his sister sang quite often in church and would sometimes perform some of their songs while whistling. Tim had lived in Jewett since 2005, coming from Manvel and was a member of the Ephesus Baptist Church. He passed away on December 29, 2016 in Waco, Texas.
Tim was preceded in death by both of his parents and son, Timothy Light. He is survived by his wife, Hattie Udell Hodges of Jewett; sons, Thomas Leland Light of Mesquite and Troy Leewayne Light (Pati) of Irving; daughters, Paulette Marie Hodges-Near (Zachary) of Conroe, Karen Ruth Hodges (Art McMahon) of California, Tammie Lanise Light (fiance, Russell G. Smith, Jr.) of Jewett and Jill Ashlie Chapman (Jacob) of Livingston; sister, Peg Kirby (John) of San Antonio and grandchildren, Patricia Light, Leeland Light, Anthony Hodges, Andrew Hodges, Amy Hodges, Sarah Hodges, Thomas Cruz Villarreal, III (fiance, Paula Courtemanche), Travis Light, James Light & Marissa Lilly Chapman. He is also survived by seventeen great grandchildren; nieces, Kathy Lambert (Mark) of San Antonio & Camille Portwood (Robert) of Crosby; five great nieces & nephews and several cousins.
Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas was in charge of all arrangements.
