Funeral services for Tommy Chumley, 70, of Centerville, are scheduled for 11 A.M., Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville. Roger Blackburn will officiate the service. Interment will follow in the Centerville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M., Friday, October 6th at the funeral home.
Thomas Wayne Chumley was born on June 21, 1947 in Hearne, Texas to Foy Guy & Annie “Lucille” (Cannon) Chumley. He was employed as a warehouse supervisor for Stolt Nielsen and had enjoyed the country life in Leon County since 1996.
Tommy was an expert at cooking bar-b-que. His brisket and sauces were famous. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and watching the deer and other wildlife that made their home on his property. He also held a fascination for ancestry research and had discovered that his own ancestors had participated in the Battle of San Jacinto and the Black Bean Episode. Tommy was an easy going man who loved to crack jokes and make people laugh. One of his favorite pastimes was watching football and baseball. The Houston Texans and Houston Astros were his favorite sports teams. Tommy had volunteered his time in the Galena Park Fire Department and as a photographer for the Centerville Volunteer Fire Department. He passed away on October 3, 2017 in Centerville, Texas and is preceded in death by his parents and son, Guy Vincent Chumley I.
Surviving family members include beloved wife, Marcia Chumley of Centerville; son, Kenneth Wayne Chumley & wife, Misty, of Palestine; daughter, Ginger Franklin & husband, Tim, of Centerville; brother, Eddie Chumley of Centerville and sisters, LaDoris Landrum & husband, Ray, of Jarrell and Marcel Kennison of Kentucky. Tommy is also survived by grandchildren, Nycole Chumley & husband, Justin Minter, Glenn Franklin & wife, Stephanie, Guy Vincent Chumley II, Austin Chumley and Conon Chumley (who Tommy adopted as his son) & wife, Lakin Collins-Chumley, and great grandchildren, Madeline, Colette, Arlo, Eryn & Bradi.
Serving as pallbearers will be Kenneth Chumley, Tim Franklin, Glenn Franklin, Guy Vincent Chumley II, Dale Hudson, Weldon Riley & Justin Minter. Honorary pallbearers will be Clayton Hudson, Greg Bain, Clint Adams, Charles Ackley & Tony Heitman.
Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas is in charge of all arrangements.
