Sylvester Laymon was born August 27, 1958 in Corsicana, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, the late Samuel Laymon. He leaves behind his mother, Mrs. Willie Lee Rhinehart.
Sylvester, better known as "Slow" throughout his life, touched the lives of many and obtained an abundance of friends. He accepted Christ at an early age.
Sylvester received his education at public schools and graduated from Centerville High School in 1976. After graduation, he met and married Charlene. To this union, God blessed them with one son and two daughters. Sylvester worked as a laborer for many years.
His survivors include mother, Mrs. Willie Lee Rhinehart; three children, Eric (Nisha) Laymon, Miaosha (Willie) Grant, and Katherine (Kelvin) Leigh; three brothers, Clyde (Beria) Johnson of Ft. Worth, Texas, Fred (Mary) Johnson of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Willie James (Loicy) Johnson of Houston, Texas; aunt, Marie Polk of Madisonville, Texas; numerous grandchildren; and a host of family and friends. Along with his father, Sylvester was also preceded in death by his brother, Samuel Lee Laymon and sister, Margaret Ann Abushannab.
A homegoing service honoring Sylvester's life will be held 11 A.M., Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas. Interment will follow in Ward Cemetery. Visitation will take place prior to the service from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M.
Pallbearers: Anthony Ray, Terrell Gill, Jack Johnson, Tyrone Johnson, Ladole Abushannab, Willie Johnson Jr.
Honorary Pallbearers: Dewayne Washington, Steve Johnson, Samia Williams
Final arrangements are entrusted to the care of Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas.
