Homegoing services for Samuel Davis, age 71, will be held 3 P.M., Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas. Pastor Kenneth Donaldson will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Two Mile Cemetery, Leona, Texas. Mr. Davis passed away December 1, 2022 in Dallas, Texas.
Samuel Ray Davis was born in Leona. Texas to Wilmer Davis and Elizabeth "Coot" Davis, the youngest of five children. He was affectionately called Sam by all who knew him. Sam graduated from Centerville High School. At an early age, he joined and attended Hillary Chapel Methodist Church in Leona, TX. Sam attended Paul Quinn College in Waco, TX.
Sam was employed at Bell Helicopter in Fort Worth, TX where he retired after almost forty years of dedicated service. He was Lead Gear Specialist, manufacturing helicopter gears in the Drive System Center in Grand Prairie, TX.
Sam enjoyed fishing, playing dominoes, and cooking. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. They adoringly called him Pawpaw. He taught them to fish, how to make Pawpaw's gumbo and strong black coffee. They enjoyed horseback riding and just enjoying fun times together. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wilmer Gene Davis; sister-in-law, Genie Ray Davis; nephew, MArcus Davis; brother-in-law, CT Tryon; and special family friend, Burnis "BW" Warren.
Survivors include his sons, Broderick Davis of Huntsville, TX, Ian Stewart Blanch of Sulphur Springs, TX, Carnell "Kenneth" Sayles of Dallas, TX, who he loved and nurtured as his own son; grandchildren, Brianna and Brice Davis of Huntsville, TX; his sisters, Marjorie Tryon, Dorothy Thomas, and Frances Davis Osborn, all of Dallas, TX; and daughter-in-law, Melissa Davis of Huntsville, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.
