Rueben L. Nickerson was born on August 19, 1943, in Trinity, Texas. He was one of ten children born to English Lamar & Ila Inez (Parker) Nickerson. He worked for Southwestern Bell as a building supervisor in Houston, and in 1994, moved to the Huntsville headquarters when he moved his residence to Leon County. Rueben retired after thirty-three years. He spent his retirement staying busy on his ranch farming and working cattle and also helping others in need. Rueben was a member of the North Creek Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher for a number of years.
Rueben passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at his home at the age of seventy-four years. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; three brothers and one sister. Surviving family members include son, Jason Nickerson & wife, Kristin, of Spring; daughter, Misty Chumley & husband, Kenneth, of Palestine; brother, Cecil Nickerson & wife, Jackie, of Coldspring and sisters, Juanita Dial of Tarkington Prairie, Jean McDonald of Kentucky, Ann Fuller of Willis and Debra Nickerson of Buffalo. Rueben is also survived by grandchildren, Jude Nickerson & Angela Olson.
Memorial services for Rueben will be held at 1:30 P.M., Friday, January 12, 2018, at the North Creek Baptist Church in the Ninevah Community of Leon County. Pastor Jim Grable will officiate the service. A private inurnment will take place following the service in the Greer Cemetery in Madison County, Texas.
Arrangements are under the direction of Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas.
