Ruby Ray Evans

October 1, 1931 — February 21, 2017

A homegoing celebration for Mrs. Ruby Ray Evans, 85, of Centerville, will be held at 11 A.M., Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas. Interment will be in Spiller Cemetery, south of Centerville in rural Leon County. A wake will be held on Friday, February 24th from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at Evans Chapel C.O.G.I.C.
Ruby Ray (Butler) Evans was born on October 1, 1931 in Taylor, Texas to Joe Butler and his wife, Ruby (Hughes) Butler. She was one of thirteen children and the last of those children alive at the time of her death in the CHI St. Joseph Healthcare Center in Bryan, Texas on February 21, 2017.
She was a lifelong resident of Leon County. She married Charles D. C.D. Evans and was a helpmate to him as he preached the word of God and served the Lord throughout his life. Ms. Ruby also served the Lord by C.D.s side at Wilson Chapel G.O.G.I.C. and, later as the couple established the Evans Chapel C.O.G.I.C. in Centerville in June 1971. She served as the Evans Chapel church treasurer for many years.
She worked as a housekeeper at a nursing home facility and was a homemaker, wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her parents and by all of her siblings: brothers, Sandy Hopkins, Sylvester Hopkins, Milton Davis, Johnnie Lotts, Joe Butler, Eugene Butler and Robert Lotts and sisters, L.R. McClinton, Angie Lacey, Ollie Mae Myles, Josephine Davis and Merlean Holt.
Ms. Ruby is survived by her husband, Supt. C.D. Evans of Centerville, Texas; son, Linzy Evans and wife, Lavette, of Italy, Texas; daughters, Pam Hopkins and husband, Norman, of Centerville, Texas, Lesia Madison and husband, Tyson, of Conroe, Texas; Jacqueline Taylor and husband, Anthony, of Centerville, Texas and Honetha Willis and husband, Norris, of Centerville, Texas; thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Arrangements are entrusted to Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas.
