Rosalie Bartkowiak

May 22, 1931 — May 4, 2024

Centerville

Rosalie was born May 22, 1931 in the family home in the town of Bremond, Robertson County, Texas.  She was the eleventh child in her family, the youngest, and the last Pisarz of Bremond to leave this Earth. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas (Tom) Pisarz and Victoria (Dujak) Pisarz; all five brothers and five sisters; and Baby Frederick succumbed to crib death early in Tom and Victoria's marriage.

Rosalie grew up in a house filled with life, hard work and love. She received a Catholic education at St. Mary's in Bremond. The family spoke Polish in the home and Rosalie was taught English in school. This resulted in an interesting accent that drew comments from people all of her life. When not in school she joined her family working in their fields growing vegetables and often going to other family farms to pick cotton.

Married to Lee Bartkowiak, also of Bremond, on October 19, 1957, for sixty years.  They raised their three children in Houston for access to Lee's work and schools, but always went back to Bremond at every opportunity to visit family and share occasions.

It was easy to tell what made Rosalie happiest; spending time with her family, talking with friends, finding colorful clothing at the thrift shops, tending her flower gardens and house plants, deep love of nature and the outdoors. She shared her religious beliefs and love of all living things with her children. She was always ready to sing Church songs, Country love songs, or listen to happy music. A baker, a cook, a seamstress and quilt maker.  Rosalie was an avid reader, prolific writer and self taught to paint in several mediums.  Most of her subjects were beloved family pets and scenes from nature.

Her husband, Lee passed away March 26, 2017, which left Rosalie lost for a while. She regained her footing and went on to enjoy seven years of making new friends and engaging with the caring people around her. Rosalie passed away peacefully in her sleep feeling completely loved and cared for.

Remaining behind to cherish her memory are daughter, Carolyn Ecton and husband Alan; and sons, Roman and Ralph Bartkowiak all in Marquez, Texas, not far from beloved Bremond. There are many nieces and nephews, who Rosalie spent time with when all were younger, she was proud of each of them.

Gratitude to family who gave extra consideration to Rosalie during her journey, nieces, Dorothy (Bielamowicz) Jurika and husband Larry, of Bristow, Virginia; Elizabeth (Bielamowicz) and husband, Harry of Houston, Texas, both now deceased, Bernadette (Bielamowicz) Kologinzak and husband, Joseph of Cypress, Texas; Ann Marie (Orsak) Knott and husband, Gene; Cleveland, Texas, Ann Marie now deceased.
