Peggy Ann Bain

Peggy Ann (King) Bain was born to John Walter & Katherine (Wilkins) King November 29, 1938 in The Ridge Community of Leon County, Texas. She lived her entire life in Leon County and was a faithful member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Centerville. She had worked for various places of employment in her younger years including the telephone company, Dairy Delight and the Leisure Lodge Nursing Home (Centerville Healthcare Center). Peggy considered her most important job that of a devoted wife to her husband, John, and beloved mother to her four children, Tammy, Buddy, Donald and Greg. She could often be found at Western Auto, assisting during days when the parts truck would arrive to deliver inventory and on Fridays and Saturdays when she would visit with her friends at the store. She never hesitated to lend a helping hand to her family when needed. Peggy loved taking care of her yard and flowers and sewing clothing, especially those for Tammy. She passed away March 4, 2022 at her home in Centerville, Texas.

Peggy was preceded in death by both of her parents; husband, John W. Bain, Sr.; son, John W. “Buddy” Bain, Jr.; son-in-law, Alton Gilbert; brothers, Lester, Chester, Easker, George, Norman and William Alfred “Fritz” King and sisters, Effie Parrish, Cordell Finney, Dorothy Lane, Verna “Tincy” Lewis and Ella Mae Boyd.

Surviving family members include children, Tammy Gilbert of Crockett, Donald (Dannette) Bain of Centerville and Greg Bain of Centerville; brother, Freddy King of Centerville; sister, Rose Pate of Centerville; grandchildren, Nick, Niles, Noah and Nathaniel Bain and Bradley Gilbert and great-grandchildren, Kayson, Ashton and Rhys Bain, as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.

A funeral service honoring Peggy’s life will be held 2 P.M., Monday, March 7, 2022 at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas followed by interment in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Bro. Dean Easterling, pastor of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, will officiate the service. A brief visitation will take place prior to the service from 1 P.M. to 2 P.M. at the funeral home.
