On Wednesday, September 1, 2021, with his wife by his side, Morris Patton “Pat” Eager, loving husband and father of two children, passed away at the age of 79 at his home in Leona, Texas. Pat, one of three children, was born on August 14, 1942, to John Patton and Deanie Ruth (Hooper) Eager, in Houston, Texas. Pat and his wife, Gwen, met at Smiley High School during their sophomore year in 1958 and lovingly married 2 years later. After living in Spring, Texas for 26 years, Pat and Gwen retired to Leona, Texas where they built their home and have lived for the past 17 years. In December of 2020, they admirably celebrated 60 years together. Pat loved the outdoors and with his wife and their two sons, enjoyed camping, floating the Frio River, hunting, fishing, and playing golf. Once retired and in Leona, Pat and Gwen made many amazing new friends and spent their time raising cattle and tending to their land. Time spent with family and friends is what he enjoyed most. Pat worked for Southwestern Bell for 18 years before opening Pat Eager Automotive. Pat and Gwen then opened Edco Autoparts in 1980, which they managed and operated for about 6 years. Pat held numerous jobs after that until retirement. He had an amazing work ethic and was passionate with every job he held. Pat is remembered fondly of his sharp wit and unwavering character.
Pat is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Darlene Eager of Leona; sons, Morris Patton Eager, Jr. and wife, Lisa of Texas City, and Stephen Kirk Eager and wife, Elisabeth of Conroe; sisters, Elora Schriewer and husband, Ernie of Crockett, and Berna Dean Baker of Nacogdoches; grandchildren, Casey Lee, Cody Wayne, Fallon Presley, Lowen Patterson, and Mallory Anderson; and great-grandson, Brayden Lee; also, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by both parents.
