It is with both sadness and celebration that we announce the passing of our beloved Modesta Garcia on December 17, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on May 11, 1940, in Edinburg, Texas, to Daniel and Narcisa (Mares) Carrizales, Modesta's journey through life was filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering dedication to her family.
A proud graduate of Edinburg High School, Modesta embarked on a beautiful adventure when she married Rodolfo Garcia in 1965. Together, they shared countless happy moments, especially enjoying long evenings filled with laughter while playing bingo or helping her husband in his garden. Family was the heart of Modesta’s life; she cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nurturing them with her warmth and laughter.
Though the breathtaking landscapes of the Rio Grande Valley captured her heart, Modesta found her true home in Leon County, where she embraced the community for over forty years. Even after the loss of her beloved husband, she remained fiercely independent and continued to thrive in her beloved community, creating enduring friendships with her neighbors. She was known in her community for her fantastic cooking skills, especially her homemade tortillas and tamales. Modesta's love for the outdoors brought her joy, as she often found peace surrounded by nature.
To honor the wonderful life that Modesta lived, a visitation will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024, at 11 A.M. at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas, followed by a prayer and rosary recitation at 1 P.M. Fr. Joseph Lourdusamy, pastor of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, will officiate the service.
Modesta was preceded in death by both of her parents; beloved husband, Rodolfo Garcia; and siblings, Lydia Garza, Tina Sapp, and Gustavo Carrizales.
She leaves behind her cherished children, Rudy Garcia, Jr. (Marli) of Greensboro, North Carolina, Rick Garcia of Centerville, Patty Garcia (Ernie) of Santa Monica, Melissa Cisneros (Raul) of Huntsville, and Rollie Garcia (Ashley) of Summerfield, North Carolina; grandchildren, Brandon (Ashton), Austin, Ernie J., Alyssa, Kevin Daniel, Rebecca, Kelsey, Ryan, Daniel Walter, Ella Elizabeth, Olivia, and Paige; great-grandchildren, Cole, Teegan, Parker, Trever, Evy Mae, Finn, Harlan, Kyler, Tatum, Braxton, and Alden; siblings, Gilbert Carrizales (Mary), Magin Carrizales (Zoila), and Angelina Carrizales, all of San Manuel; as well as numerous extended family and special friends who will carry forward her legacy of love, strength, and community.
As we gather to celebrate Modesta's life, let us remember the joy she brought to all of us and the warmth she spread wherever she went. May her memory inspire us all to embrace life with the same passion and dedication she exemplified.
Final arrangements are under the direction of Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas.
