Mildred Louise Stell was born on July 11, 1925 in Corsicana to Ira John and Eleanor (York) Buckalew. She married Rex Stell on July 21, 1946 in Houston, Texas after he returned from WWII. Both were employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and rode to work together for thirty years. Mildred retired on October 17, 1977 from the accounting department. The couple eventually moved to Centerville to enjoy their retirement years. Mildred had lovingly supported Rex while he restored antique cars. July Fourth was always a busy day for the Stells, and they drove their antique cars in the Centerville Parade on the Fourth of July for many years. Mildred loved to cook. Her baked goods were wonderful, and she generously provided them for church and community events. She also enjoyed counted cross stitch. Her needlepoint pictures were wonderful works of art.
Mildred passed away on September 1, 2017 at her home in Centerville. She was preceded in death by both of her parents; brother, Robert Buckalew and sister, Janice Corley. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Rex Stell; nieces, Linda Kay Whetsell, M. Lynn Graham, Robyn Migas and Beth Gary and one nephew, Bob Buckalew.
Pallbearers will be Bob Buckalew, Russell Buckalew, Denny Payne, Robert Campbell, Earl Moore and Mike Clark. Honorary pallbearers well be Joe Whetsell, Roger Manning and George Lowry.
In lieu of flowers, the Stell family requests that memorial donations be made to the Centerville Cemetery Association--c/o Jill Gresham, P.O. Box 452, Centerville, Texas 75833; the Centerville Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 340, Centerville, Texas or a charity of choice.
