Mary Ann Jones, age 82, passed away in Houston, Texas October 16, 2019. A funeral service has been set for 11 A.M., Saturday, October 19, 2019, at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas. Jared Bollman, evangelist of the Church of Christ in Centerville, will officiate the service, and interment will follow in Russell Cemetery in rural Leon County.
Mary Ann Jones was born September 16, 1937, in Jewett, Texas to parents, William Bethel & Nora Altha (Taylor) Durant. She was a graduate of Jewett High School and a devoted homemaker her whole life. Mary enjoyed gardening and was an excellent seamstress. She had a talent for interior design and always kept a beautiful home. She especially loved to entertain and cook for family and friends and always made the most wonderful meals. She and her late husband, James, lived in Deer Park until James’ retirement. They lived their retired life in the Lakewood community south of Centerville until 2007 when, due to health reasons, it was necessary to move closer to family. Mary also had excellent penmanship and hand wrote cookbooks for each of her granddaughters. Mary was an elegant woman who helped bring beauty to everyone’s life. She has left her family a wonderful legacy to be remembered for years to come.
Mary was preceded in death by both of her parents; granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Dickerson; brother, Leonard Sorenson and sisters, Adele Warren, Gladys Hennesey, Mae Lathrop, Fay Parker and Laverne Winstead.
Surviving family members include son, Kevin Jones (Kathy) of Deer Park; daughters, Peggy Williams & Marilyn Martin (Carl) all of Pasadena; brother, John T. Durant of Bryan; sister, Sue Rodgers of Fairfield and grandchildren, Carrie Nelson (James), Amy Clark (Mark), Adam Williams (Bonnie), Sarah Dickerson-Poplin (Brian), Kathryn Nordloh (Chris) and Cori Storey (Julia). Mary is also survived by fourteen great-grandchildren and three great, great-grandchildren.
