Martha Ann Washington

Mrs. Martha "Ann" Washington was born Thursday, November 2, 1950, to Mr. L.J. & Mrs. Josephine Johnson.  She was birthed in Ft. Worth, Texas and raised there, as well as Centerville, Texas.  She achieved her education at Fredrick Douglas School in Centerville.  Mrs. Washington was well known and respected in her community as the manager of the Cleaners for forty, plus years, often referred to as "Momma" by her patrons.  Being steadfast in her faith she served as a member of New Zion Church, Pleasant Springs, Texas.

Mrs. Martha Ann Washington passed away November 7, 2022 in Houston, Texas.  She was preceded in death by both of her parents; brothers, James & Lewis Johnson and cherished sister, Brenda Johnson.  She leaves her youngest surviving sibling, Michael Cozart. 

Spending her latter teenage years in Centerville, Mrs. Washington met and married Mr. Coakie Washington, Jr. whom she leaves to cherish her memories.  Of that union, four children were born:  Sharon Y-Vette Colquitt (Cedric), Timothy Derrell Washington (Lena), Coakie Washington, III (Madeline) and Michael DeWayne Washington (Kathryn).

Mrs. Washington was a very loving, yet no-nonsense matriarch of her family, having nine grandchildren, Ashley, Darius, Jeremy, Tim Jr., Shamika, Urian, Elijah, A'Laya and Kedrean and five great-grandchildren (Paris, Eliasz, Jamarcus, Isiah and Jeremy, Jr.

She is also survived by a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and many friends, as well as her best friend/sister of thirty years, Joyce Teamer.

A life well lived; an honor well deserved.

Homegoing services for Mrs. Martha Ann Washington, age 72, of Centerville, Texas will be held 11 A.M., Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas.  Interment will follow in Pleasant Springs Cemetery.  A brief visitation will take place prior to the service Saturday from 10 A.M. to service time. 

Pallbearers:  Elijah Washington, Jeremy Winchester, Michael Cozart, Jr., Cedric Washington, Kedrean Adams, Otha Woodard
