A funeral mass to celebrate her life will be held at 11 A.M., Saturday, November 18, 2017 at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Centerville. Interment will follow in St. Leo the Great Catholic Cemetery. A visitation will take place from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. with a rosary recited from 8 P.M. to 9 P.M. on Friday, November 17th at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville.
Maria Lara Orona was born on September 28, 1948 in Pecos, Texas to Reyes Hernandez & Sista (Hernandez) Lara. She had worked for Texas Sports and Medicine in the bill collection department. Maria and her husband had spent several years traveling from their residence in Houston to Centerville where they owned property. Their retirement dream came true five years ago when they made Centerville their permanent home. Maria was a devout member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church. Her entire life centered around her love for the Lord. She spent many hours in prayer for her fellow brothers and sisters who didn’t know Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and served as a counselor and comforter to children and adults, alike. She had so much love to share with the world. Even during the midst of her illness, Maria was compelled to show kindness and compassion to others, never once complaining or showing anger during painful moments, but always smiling and thinking of everyone else’s well being before her own. Maria’s family is thankful that she is no longer in any pain and is rejoicing in Heaven.
Maria was preceded in death by both of her parents and four siblings. Surviving family members include husband of fifty-four years, Santos Orona of Centerville; son, Daniel Orona of Centerville; daughters, Elizabeth Orona of Centerville and Maria Magdalena Orona & husband, Marty Davila, of Denton; brothers, Juan & Christopher Lara, both of Odessa and sister, Amelia Orona of Chicago.
