Mac L. Manning

January 22, 1944 — April 25, 2017

Funeral services for Mac L . Manning, age 73, of Leona will be held Friday at 10:00 A.M. in the Madisonville Funeral Home Chapel with Lanier Stevens officiating and Stuart Carter assisting. Interment will follow in the Midway Cemetery. Visitation will held Friday morning from 9:00 A.M. till service time.

Mr. Manning was born in Madison County to Stoke and Virgie McVey Manning January 22, 1944. He died April 25, 2017 in Bryan, with his wife Wanda by his side. He was a lifetime resident of Madison and Leon County and a graduate of Madisonville High School. He showed his mother's dairy cows and won the Grand Champion at the Houston Livestock Show one year. He credits Mr. Ross Garrett as his mentor showing him the techniques in showmanship. Mr. Manning was a longtime rancher with his wife helping in all ranching responsibilities. He also retired from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice January 31, 1994 as Assistant Warden. Mac and Wanda decided early in their marriage that to make it and live in the area and be successful they both had to get jobs. Slowly and surely their hard work paid off and through the years their dreams were fulfilled. Mac and Wanda were married for fifty two years. Mac was a very respected man and rancher in Madison and Leon Counties and leaves many friends he had made through the years and will be sorely missed.


He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Joe Calvin Manning, and sister Guslyn Manning Hairston He is survived by his wife Wanda of Leona, four nephews James Olin Manning, Billy Joe Manning, Lawrence Hairston and Stan Hairston and two nieces Lynanne Manning, Sudie Duck.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Mt. Tabor Church of Christ or the American Cancer Society.

Funeral services are under the direction of Madisonville Funeral Home.
