Larry Don Tryon was born October 12, 1958 in Normangee, Texas to Frankie (Smith) Tryon and Jim Tryon. He was the youngest of eight children. He excelled in school in the Leon and Centerville areas. He graduated from Centerville High School in 1977 and went on to graduate from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville in 1981 with a degree in social work and criminal justice with a minor in business.
Larry began work for Eckerd's in Houston, and in 1996, he moved to Austin, Texas because it was his home base as a regional manager. In 2001, Larry retired from Eckerd's and moved to Centerville, Texas. He worked for Martin Luther Homes in Madisonville, which was part of M.H.M.R. Larry later worked for Tetco, first in Centerville and then in Groesbeck as a manager. Larry's last place of employment was part-time at Woody's Smokehouse. He enjoyed his work there until his health began to fail.
Larry worked in the United Methodist Church District where he served at Hillary Chapel and Two Mile United Methodist Church under the leadership of Dr. Greenwood. If Larry could, he would say to all of us that knew and loved him, “My living has not been in vain because I worked when I could and sometimes when I wasn’t physically able to. But, as the word says, I must work when it is day for when nite cometh, no man can work.”
On November 3, 2018, Larry went home to be with the Lord. He leaves behind one son, Greg (Lois) Tryon and one grandchild, Markel, all of Houston; three sisters, Dorothy Shaw of Ft. Worth, Olene Davis of Centerville, Billie Jean Johnson of Dallas; four brothers, Melvin Dean Tryon of Dallas, Jimmy Lee Tryon of Bryan, Charles Tryon (Larita) of Dallas, Eugene Tryon (Pearlie Jo) of Centerville and a host of family and friends.
