Karen (Kirkland) Blocker

January 18, 1959 — April 22, 2021

Karen Blocker, age 62, of Buffalo, Texas passed away April 22, 2021 in Bryan, Texas from a tragic complication from chemotherapy.

Karen was born in Grand Prairie, Texas January 18, 1959, as the sixth of seven children to James C. and Helen J. Kirkland. She and her two youngest siblings were nicknamed “the 3 little ones”, a name that is still used today.

In the early 70s her family moved to Burleson, TX where she would go on to graduate High school in 1977. She had fond memories of her printing class In school and working at Gina’s Pizzeria. After high school she briefly moved to Florida with her sister and worked for the Spa executive office.

She met Robert, the love of her life, on New Year’s eve, 1979, and her dad officiated their marriage on October 19, 1980. February 15, 1981 she gave birth prematurely to a son, Robert Earnest Lee Blocker, Jr. May 14, 1982 their family was complete with the birth of daughter Brandy Renee’.

Her family lived in Alvarado, TX for years before finally calling Leon County home.

Karen enjoyed planting flowers in her yard and watching the butterflies and humming birds buzz by. She spent most her time with her husband and family, and taking care of her beloved parrot, Jody. Karen had a beautiful heart and loved her family and friends whole heartedly. She absolutely loved butterflies and singing and dancing to music. Most of the time in the evenings you could find her in the living room watching tv and sipping tea out of her favorite Dallas cowboys cup. She loved to go places, so her favorite quote “you bout ready” was perfectly fitting.

Karen was preceded in death by father, James Charles Kirkland and mother, Helen Joyce (Russell) Kirkland.

She is survived by husband of forty-four years, Robert Lee Blocker of Buffalo; son, Robert Blocker, Jr (Gena) of Ft Worth; daughter, Brandy Mutschler (Josh) of Centerville; seven grandchildren, Madison, Anthony and Natalie Blocker of Leona and McKenzie, Lynsie, Mylie and Landen Mutschler of Centerville.

Also surviving are sisters, Judy Kirkland, Tina Williams (Barry) and Gloria McCann (Jimmy), both of Burleson; brother, Richard Kirkland (Charlotte) also of Burleson; sister, Shirley Dunlap (Fred) of Jacksonville, FL and brother, James Charles Kirkland, Jr (Freda) of North Richland Hills; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and special friends, Mike Nichols and wife, Susan of North Richland Hills.

A family memorial will be held 4 P.M., Saturday, May 29, 2021 at the Blocker residence in Buffalo. Friends and family are welcome.
