Karan Denise Whitmire-Fain, 63, of Centerville, Texas was born January 3, 1954 in Liberty, Texas. Her parents were James Edward Calhoun and Verna (Campbell) Calhoun. She grew up and lived in Liberty most of her life.
During her years in Liberty, she worked at the Teachers Credit Union and for the Liberty County Tax Office. She also worked at Cooper Well Service as a bookkeeper. In 1998, she moved to Leon County near Centerville. She worked for Fox Trucking and Fluids in Buffalo and at the Tiger Mart. She also worked at the Leon County Sheriffs Office in Centerville. Karan was a Methodist. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting and reading but her favorite activity was attending the sporting events of her children and grandchildren. She passed away on the evening of July 4, 2017 at her residence with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Surviving family includes her husband, Lee Fain of Centerville; a son James Whitmire of Centerville; daughters, Samantha Ritz (husband, James) of Midlothian, Texas and Onnia Whitmire of Centerville; step-daughter, Jenna Hicks (husband, Matt) of Montgomery, Texas; brothers, James Thomas Calhoun of Liberty, Texas and James Lee Calhoun of Onalaska, Texas; a sister, Kristi, Ross of Baytown, Texas and grandchildren, Trey, Rebecca, Jeremy, Raegann , Kaylee and Wyatt.
A memorial funeral service is planned for 1 pm, Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the Leon County Cowboy Church. The pastor, Bro. Tuffy Loftin, will officiate. The morning of the service, from 10 am until12 noon, a gathering of friends and family will be held at the church.
Walters Funeral Home in Centerville is assisting the family with arrangements.
