Funeral services for June Bourne McKinley, age 83, of Houston and formerly of Marquez are set for 11 AM, Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the Marquez Baptist Church in Marquez. Bro. Charlie Robinson, pastor of the Marquez Baptist Church will officiate and burial will follow in the Marquez Cemetery. There will be no visitation or viewing. Services are under the direction of Walters Funeral Home in Centerville.
June McKinley was born June 24, 1933 in Houston, Texas to Maurice Walter and Roberta Esther (Martindale) Bourne. She was a Christian. She taught art for a while and was the Director of the non-profit Kidney Foundation in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was a founding member of the Bayfest in Corpus Christi that is now an annual event. June also was involved in a Musk Ox Revival Program in the state of Alaska during the 1970s. While living in Marquez, she helped to found a public library that is named after her mother.
June was preceded in death by her parents and by her daughter, Cynthia Joan Gordon. Surviving family includes four sons, Charles John McKinley, Christopher James McKinley of Houston, Carlton Joseph McKinley of Bastrop and Curtis Jason McKinley of Houston; three brothers, Dudley Bourne of Arizona, Maurice Bourne of Marquez and Cecil M. Bourne of Corpus Christi; a sister, Martha Whinery of Drippings, Texas; twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
