Joy Laquita (Payne) Simpson

Joy Laquita (Payne) Simpson was born May 25, 1933 in Leon County, Texas to Claude & Winnie (Neyland) Payne. She was raised in Leon County. Later she moved to the Houston area and lived there with her husband, Roy until 1979 when they decided to move back to Leon County.

Joy worked in the banking business most of her life. When she was younger, she enjoyed playing sports, including volleyball and baseball. Later she enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports while they were in school. Being around family brought Joy the most happiness in life. She loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Joy passed away March 29, 2022 in Conroe, Texas. She was preceded in death by both of her parents; husband, Roy Simpson; son, Keith Smith; grandson, Donald “Bubba” Smith; three sisters and one brother.

Surviving family members include daughter, Vicki (David) Fuller of Montgomery; brother, Don Payne of Old Bowling; grandchildren, Amanda (Michael) Wills, Shelly (Kevin) Smyth and Lori (Britt) Kelley and great-grandchildren, Andrew & Haleigh Wills, McKenna Cameron, Kaili & Claire Smyth and Jenna & Britton Kelley, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services honoring the life of Joy Simpson will be held 2 P.M., Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Concord Cemetery, Concord, Texas. David Fuller will officiate the service.
