Funeral services for Johnny F. Wilson, age 84, of Crockett and formerly of Centerville have been set for 2 pm, Friday, December 2, 2016 at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville. Bro. Bo Gunnels will officiate and burial will be in the Cross Cemetery in Grimes County. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, December 1st, from 5 pm until 7 pm at the funeral home.
Johnny Wilson was born in Ellis County, Texas on February 25,1932 to Charlie and Josie Lola (Wolf) Wilson. He was raised in Madisonville. As a young man, he was an oilfield worker. Then, he worked for Jansons Lumberyard in Dallas. After several years, he went back to the oilfields as a gauger. Mr. Wilson then went into the real estate business as the owner of rental property in Madison County and Texarkana.
He enjoyed people watching at the local cafe while sipping on a cup of coffee. His daughter said that he also enjoyed driving to the state of Colorado. He would take his family on many trips to this favorite place, leaving on Friday when the kids got out of school and being back by Sunday evening in time for them to be in school on Monday. He was a Christian of the Assembly of God faith.
Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Clara Mae Tubb; son, Larry Wilson; daughter, Sandy Wilson; step-mother, Ethel Wilson and wife, Norma Wilson. Johnny Wilson passed away on November 29, 2016 in Crockett, Texas.
His surviving family includes daughters, Kathy Sigford and her husband, John, of Centerville and Peggy Pyle, of Centerville; sons, Charlie Wilson of Austin and Johnny Ray Wilson of Oklahoma; brothers, Denny Wilson of North Zulch, James Wilson and Charlie Wilson of Madisonville; sisters, Lonnie Thomas and Flossie Hall of Madisonville; grandchildren, Amanda Woodley, Sandra Overman, Alicia Pyle and Cody Pyle and several great grandchildren.
