Jaxson Matthews, lifelong resident of Centerville, passed away in the late hours of June 18, 2019 at his home in the Redland Community of Leon County, Texas at the age of thirteen years. A celebration of his life will be held 11 A.M., Saturday, June 22, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Centerville, Texas. Burial will follow in the Centerville Cemetery. Jaxson’s family will receive friends Friday, June 21st from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville.
Jaxson Ryan Matthews was born May 31, 2006 in College Station, Texas to parents, Randi “Shea” Clossin and Ryan Matthews. From the moment Jaxson entered this world he exuded a radiance to which none other could compare. His defining features were his beautiful, bubbly smile and laugh. In fact, there were not many times in Jaxson’s life that he didn’t smile. Even through rough and painful periods of hospital stays and illnesses, there was still a smile on Jaxson’s face as if he was silently saying, “Cheer up. Everything is going to be o.k., and I love you!”
Moments when Jaxson was with his family seemed to be his most cherished times. He loved when someone’s attention was focused on him and when people talked to him. He especially loved getting kisses. It seemed like Jaxson found humor when any of his siblings were being scolded because he would always laugh when voices had to be raised to correct them. Jaxson had a slight habit of staying up a little too late (all night) watching cartoons, ensuring that his parents were very tired the next morning when it was time for work. Most of all, Jaxson loved sitting outside and the simple pleasure of feeling the warm sun or a cool breeze on his face.
The very short time Jaxson was able to spend here in his earthly home brought such an immeasurable joy to so many people. He will never know how many lives he touched just through that smile and exuberant personality of his. However, his enduring legacy will continue to impact lives for a long time to come.
Jaxson was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Gay Nell Clossin (2008). He is survived by mother, Shea Clossin (Jerry Nichols) of Centerville; father, Ryan Matthews (JoAnna) of Centerville; siblings, Kade & Kolt Thompson, Bri Matthews, Holley Danner, Hudson Matthews and Cayne McRee; maternal grandfather, Tod Clossin of Centerville and paternal grandparents; Ray and Becky Matthews of Centerville. Jaxson is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins extended family and friends.
