James Welton Jones

Funeral services have been set for James Welton Jones, age 82, of Pasadena and formerly of Centerville and will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at the Walters Funeral Home Chapel in Centerville. Jared Bollman, evangelist at the Church of Christ in Centerville, will officiate and burial will follow in the Russell Cemetery. James Welton Jones was born on April 6, 1934 in Marquez, Texas. His parents were Robert Lee and Addie Mae (Lummus) Jones. He graduated from the Jewett High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army where he worked as a radar operator and achieved the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Jones worked for Rohm and Haas in Deer Park, Texas for 33 years and retired as a chemical plant operator.


Following retirement, he and his wife, Mary Ann, built a home in the Lakewood edition near Centerville. Mr. Jones enjoyed wood carving, wood working and building projects. He was a bee keeper and enjoyed gardening. He also played the guitar. Mr. Jones and Mary Ann were members of the Church of Christ in Centerville. In 2007, the couple moved back to Pasadena to be close to their children. Following a lengthy illness, Mr. Jones passed away on December 17, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Edith Story, Irene Williams, Corita Moncrief and Dorothy Jones; brothers, Roy Jones and Johnny Ray Jones and a granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Dickerson.


His surviving family includes his wife, Mary Ann Jones of Friendswood; a son Kevin Jones (Kathy) of Pasadena; daughters, Peggy Williams of Pasadena and Marilyn Martin (Carl) of Pasadena; brother, Edward Jones of Crockett; sister, Bessie Woodall of Jewett; grandchildren, Carrie Nelson (James), Amy Nygaard, Adam Williams (Bonnie), Sarah Dickerson-Poplin (Brian Poplin), Kathryn Nordloh (Chris) and Cori Story (Deidre); thirteen great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
