James Floyd Lester Jr., 83, of Temple, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 4, in Temple. He was born in Dallas, Texas on May 1, 1933 to James Floyd Lester Sr. and Dorothy Lee Lester.
Jimmy lived in Dallas where he attended Sunset High School. There he met, and later married, Ivena Katherine Harber. They remained married for 65 years until his death. He joined the ROTC at Sunset for a three year enlistment while in high school. After graduation, James attended Texas A&M College in 1951. He left college when his unit was activated beginning his service as a Staff Sergeant in the Military Police for the U.S. Air Force.
Upon his honorable discharge from the Air Force 1953, Jimmy started an automotive store. This store grew to many retail stores covering a five state area. In order to maintain these stores he began taking flying lessons, and with its completion, purchased his own private aircraft.
Throughout his career he worked for, and owned, several companies varying from the tire business, trailer leasing, real estate, a restaurant owner and a self-employed contractor. Jimmys last contract project was the Leon County Annex Building.
Jimmy was a wonderful greeter with a huge smile and hugs for family members, and he was loved by all. He had a passion for flying, building and working with projects. He will truly be missed by all.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his son, Randall Ray Lester. He is survived by his wife, Ivena Lester; sons, Gary Lester & wife, Claudia, and Tom Lester; five grandchildren & four great grandchildren.
A private family graveside service will be held at Evans Chapel Cemetery on April 22, 2017.
Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas is in charge of all arrangements.
