Jackie Imajean Franks

Funeral services for Jackie Imajean Franks, age 93, of Centerville, have been set for 10 A.M., Saturday, August 18, 2018 at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville. Rev. Dean Easterling, pastor of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Centerville, will officiate, and burial will follow in the Franks Family Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled for Friday evening from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. at the funeral home.

Jackie Franks was the youngest of thirteen children born to Joe and Maggie (McKee) Newsom. She was born in Nineveh, Texas on May 26, 1925 and a lifelong resident of the Centerville area of Leon County, Texas, as well as, a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She graduated from Centerville High School in 1942. Following her graduation, she worked for a while during World War II in Ft. Worth as an electrician in an aircraft factory. She married Hamp Franks on January 15, 1949. Jackie held a variety of jobs throughout her life. She was a postal clerk in the Centerville Post Office, a retail clerk at Gresham and Sons, and also a retail clerk at Mallard’s Variety Store. She and Hamp bought another store in Centerville and renamed it Franks Variety. Jakcie worked there from 1956 until 1986 when it was destroyed by a fire. She then worked as a clerk in the Leon County Tax Office until her retirement.

Jackie passed away August 16, 2018 at her home. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis "Hamp" Franks (October 2, 2007); granddaughter, Misty Franks; brothers, Barney Newsom, Cyras Newsom, Fred Newsom, Deward Newsom, Howard Newsom and John Newsom and sisters, Josie Newsom, Opal Brown, Algernon Bassham, Maggie Lou Yancey and Ira Dell Bell.

The surviving family includes son, Johnny Franks (wife, Kay) of Centerville; grandsons, John Franks and Matt Franks (wife, Alicia) all of Centerville; great grandsons, Grant Franks and Levi Franks; great granddaughters, Madisyn Franks and Emmy Franks; a brother, Mack Newsom of Houston and many nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Misty Franks Memorial Scholarship Fund or the Centerville Volunteer Fire Department.
