Jack Wayne Moore

Funeral services for Jack Moore, age 84, will be held 11 A.M., Thursday, February 13, 2020, at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas. Mike Thompson will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Parker Cemetery in the Flo Community of Leon County. The Moore family will receive friends Wednesday evening, February 12th, from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the funeral home.

Jack Wayne Moore was born May 8, 1935, in Flo, Texas to Walker Jasper & Claudia (Raines) Moore. He was a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserves and stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. Jack worked as a Chemist in the oil industry for about twenty-nine years in Port Arthur, Texas. Upon his retirement in 1981, Jack moved to Palestine, Texas, where he enjoyed living very much. While in Palestine, Jack worked for six years in a mechanic shop with James Haynes and six years as a security guard for T.D.C.J. at the Coffield Unit in Tennessee Colony.

Jack loved riding motorcycles in his younger days and had once rode from Nederland, Texas to Washington State. He also enjoyed buying older cars to refurbish and resale them. Jack had a soft spot for homeless animals and took pleasure in caring for them. He often collected cans to raise money for the local humane society. Additionally, Jack loved gathering with family members at Christmas where they would strum on their guitars and sing together.

Jack passed away February 10, 2020, in a Palestine nursing home. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; brothers, Randolph, Harvey & Afton “Colonel” Moore and sisters, Gladys Lathrop, Inez Griffin, Evelyn Bell, Estelle Moore, Audrey Mae Squyres, Marie Haynes and Zelma Moore.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Beard) Moore of Palestine and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your local Humane Society or Veteran’s Organization.
