Imogene Posey

May 23, 1926 — March 18, 2020

Imogene was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother. She is best remembered for her honesty, integrity and personal ethics. She was very devoted to her family and her deep Christian beliefs. A lifelong Baptist by faith, but having a curious nature, she studied different religions, including reading the Koran. At the time of her death, she was the longest member of First Baptist Church, Centerville having been baptized in 1939 at the age of thirteen, which made her an eighty year member of the church.

She was born on May 23, 1926 in Concord, Texas. During her school years, she loved playing Volley Ball. One of her most prized possessions, other than her old Kodak box camera, was a Volley Ball charm won during a tournament while attending the Concord school system. In 1945, she married Carl Posey, of the Redland Community. They raised four children in Texas City where Imogene was a homemaker and devoted mother. She taught her children to be strong, independent, to think for themselves, and to never go against their beliefs. While living in Texas City, Imogene worked diligently at First Baptist Church, Texas City with the beginner four year old's. In later years, her daughters were amazed to enter the Sunday school room to find all their childhood toys present. Imogene believed in recycling and nothing going to waste before it became popular. After Carl’s retirement from Union Carbide, they moved back to their family roots in Leon County settling first in Marquez, then Centerville.

On March 18, 2020, at the age of ninety-three, Imogene gained her wings and went home to be with her Lord and Savior. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Posey, Sr., her oldest daughter, Nancy Carolyn Posey Thomson Kiker; grandson, Randel Bruce “Randy” Thomson; mother, Velva Hammock Russell; a loving friend, teacher, protector and self-appointed father-figure in her life, Calvin H. Griffin and a very special loving family that raised her, Royle C. & Vertia Hammock Cravey; cousins, R.B. Cravey, James Cravey, Bobby Jack Cravey & Ruby Lee Cravey Speer.

Imogene is survived by daughter, Brenda Beeler & husband, Robert “Bob;” two sons, Richard Posey & wife, Karen and Carl Posey, Jr. & wife, Marilyn; seven grandchildren, Leigh Ann Ross, Melissa Skates, Rebecca Williams, Michael Posey, Tammy Ginsel, Tara Lee Posey and Sam Posey; thirteen great-grandchildren; and four great, great-grandchildren.
