Howell M. Cannon was born on April 3, 1933 in El Campo, Texas to William Milton Cannon & Maude (Howell) Cannon. He was raised in El Campo and was a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin. He worked for most of his life as a chemical engineer for Texas Instruments. Genes greatest joy was coming to Centerville to see his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching them play sports and attended as many games as possible. Gene loved his whole family and was grateful for the time spent with each and every one of them. His late father-in-law, Elmer Ward, had become a father to him in the absence of his biological father.
Gene had served as a deacon at the First Baptist Church in Plano at one time and had lived in the Dallas area since 1968. He was currently a member of the Prestonwood Baptist Church. Gene passed away on November 14, 2016 in a Plano hospital. He was preceded in death by his mother, Maude Cannon; daughter, Lauren Larue; father-in-law, Elmer Ward and mother-in-law, Jewel Ward.
Surviving family members include loving wife, Peggy Cannon of Plano; son & daughter-in-law, Powell & Libby Cannon of Centerville; grandsons, Jordan Cannon of Huntsville and Jake Cannon of Centerville; several special nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Michelle Holsey Foundation, P.O. Box 652, Crockett, Texas 75835.
