Funeral services for Homer Cornelius Wright, age 97, of Centerville, will be held at 11 A.M., Monday, June 19, 2017 at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas. Bro. Ed Houk will officiate the service. Graveside services will be held at 12 Noon, Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston, Texas. A public visitation will take place on Sunday, June 18th from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the funeral home.
Homer Cornelius Wright was born on September 12, 1919 in Greenville, Texas. His parents were Homer Gray & Edith (Little) Wright. Homer was a First Lieutenant in the Marine Corps during WWII and the Korean War; one of very few commissioned during battle. He worked as a Foreman for Ethyl Corporation in Pasadena, Texas; from which he also retired. Homer had been raised in a Methodist Home and attended the First Baptist Church in Centerville. He was married to his wife, Gerry (Nail) Wright for sixty-eight years and had lived in Centerville since November of 1983.
Homer enjoyed being outdoors. Whether it was working the cattle on his ranch or going on his annual hunting trip to Colorado, Homer loved nature and everything it had to offer. He also spent time painting beautiful pictures and was a wonderful photographer.
Homer passed away on June 15, 2017 at his home. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; brothers, Sam & B.T. Wright and sister, Sue Salling. Surviving family members include wife, Gerry Wright of Centerville; son, Homer Wright, Jr. of Big Spring and host of nieces and nephews.
Walters Funeral Home in Centerville is in charge of all arrangements.
