Homer Claude Kelly, Jr.

September 26, 1935 — January 14, 2022

Born September 26, 1935, in Mount Enterprise, Texas. Graduated from William Adams High School in Alice, Texas 1955.

Had a lot of good times with friends, Wayne Wilks, John Lester Clark, Jack Powell, Millard Coggins and Gene Martin.

Where you saw one of us the others were there too, enjoying life as teenagers do.

Dad used to tease Wayne and I when we were going to get married because we were always together. We still correspond by phone.

Idolized my older brother, Bill. He bought me my first bicycle, my first watch, etc. He took me a lot of places with him. Most big brothers wouldn’t even consider doing so. He saw that I was in bed on time and ready for school the next morning. My brother passed away in 1999 and is dearly missed. I still correspond with his wife, my sister-in-law frequently.

At age 22, I became a father to baby girl Cheryl. Overjoyed at the birth.

Glad on the second birth to have Creg, a boy to carry the Kelly name on.

Denise was called my “light co. baby” because that was the year I went to work for Houston Light and Power. So happy when I saw her.

My greatest inspiration was to be like some of my co-workers, Mr. Parker, Mr. Wilson, Mr. Lucus and Mr. Lowery.

Greatest accomplishment: Built my own two-story house.

If I could live my life over, I would have studied harder in school. I would have waited a while before getting married.

I would like to be remembered for being a hard worker. I worked for H. L. & P. also raised some cattle and bailed my own hay. Also, did extra carpenter work and attended church.

Fondest childhood memory: Playing like I had a ranch with cows.
