Hilda Ann Cave

Hilda Ann Whitley Cave passed away January 9, 2025, at the age of 84, at her home in Flynn, Texas. Hilda was born December 30, 1940, in El Campo, Texas, to Carl and Imogene (Douthitt) Whitley. She graduated from Denver City High School and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from the University of North Texas.

Hilda began a distinguished thirty-year career as a public school teacher in Grand Saline, Texas, and taught at many schools including Sweetwater, Stamford, Guthrie, Aspermont, and Buffalo. She was an active member of both the Future Homemakers of America and the Texas State Teachers Association. Hilda also served as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, and following her retirement from teaching, went on to another career as a curriculum director with MHMR at the Mexia State School.

While teaching in Sweetwater, Hilda met and married Ted Stanley Cave of Rotan, Texas. Ted and Hilda had two children - a daughter, Wenona, and son, Whitley. Hilda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brother, Carl Whitley, Jr., of San Jose, California. She is survived by her daughter, Wenona Cave Martinez, and husband Julian, of Flynn; her son, Whitley Cave, and wife Jennifer, of College Station; and eight beloved grandchildren, Kayla, Shelby, Lindsey, Andress, Anna, Mary Beth, Travis, and Avery.

A funeral service to celebrate Hilda's life will be held 11 A.M., Friday, January 17, 2025, at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas. Interment will follow in Gum Springs Cemetery near Flynn, Texas.

Pallbearers:  Travis Cave, Whitley Cave, Kenny Housley, Julian Martinez, John Petree, Jeremy Voss 

The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the East Texas Food Bank or the Flynn Volunteer Fire Department. Both were organizations that Hilda supported during her life.
