Helen May was born May 21, 1926 in Concord, Texas, to John Thomas and Maude Adele (Montgomery) Moon. She attended Concord High School where she missed only two days of attendance during her twelve years there. She graduated as the Historian of her class in 1944 and with honors. She received awards for the honor roll, attendance and typing class.
After graduation, she moved to Houston and attended Massey Business College. She married Curtis May of Waco , April 9, 1946, and they were married 50 years before his death in 1996. Helen worked for Texas Instruments before moving to Leon County in March, 1968. She enjoyed living there close to her parents, kin folks and friends. She and her husband owned and operated the C-Bar H Ranch in Robbins, Texas. After moving to the country, she worked at Mexia State School in Mexia, Texas as Charge of Dorm B3. She left this position in 1969 to care for her aging and widowed mother.
Helen enjoyed gardening, canning, fishing, hunting, reading and playing dominoes. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Thomas and Adele Moon, a brother, Martel Moon, sisters, Hazel Moon Tatum and Tommy Joe Moon Madden. She leaves to mourn her passing a sister, Jane Ivy, and brother-in-law Don Ivy of Brenham; sister Doug Yaeger and brother-in-law Harold Yaeger of Tyler; brother-in-law Ben Madden of Marquez and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her special friend, Edith Lagrone, who was like a sister, and James and Patricia Spikes, who were like family.
Services for Helen Marie May are set for 2 pm, Wednesday, February 1st at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas, with Reverend Billy Bob Evans officiating. Internment will be in the Concord Cemetery at Concord, Texas. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 31st, from 4 pm until 6 pm.
