The life journey of Darlene Gilbert, age 90, of Flynn, Texas, began on December 24, 1933, in Jacksonville, Texas. She was welcomed as the youngest child of ten to James Montgomery and Sallie Marshall (Campbell) Langley. Darlene spent her early childhood years in the small community of Laneville, Texas. After her father's retirement from share crop farming, the family moved in a wagon pulled by two red mules to Houston, Texas. At the age of twelve, this move marked the start of a life full of cherished memories and experiences. After graduating from Milby High School in Houston, while working for GE, Darlene's path led her to a fateful encounter with her husband, Frank Gilbert, Jr., through mutual friends, culminating in a joyous marriage on February 5, 1956.
An adventurous spirit took Darlene and her beloved husband to Flynn, Texas, where they settled after his retirement from the Houston Fire Department in 1979. Their home and property in Flynn became their own paradise, a serene sanctuary where they savored every moment together. Darlene's passions for arts, crafts, handwork, and furniture restoration filled her days with creativity and joy. Tending to her flower beds brought her solace, and the sight of her son's cows grazing on their land brought her peace and contentment.
Darlene passed away peacefully at her home in Flynn, Texas, the morning of August 18, 2024.
