Fonsein Haynie Gresham

Funeral services for Mrs. Fonsein (Haynie) Gresham, age 98, of Centerville, will be held 10 A.M., Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas. Interment will follow in the Haynie-Gresham Family Cemetery. The Gresham family will receive friends 6 P.M. to 8 P.M., Friday, February 7th at the funeral home.

Fonsein (Haynie) Gresham was born November 8, 1921 in Newby, Texas to parents, B.A. & Obie (Winn) Haynie. Mrs. Gresham was raised in the Vanetia community and attended and graduated from Marquez school. She married John T. Gresham on June 30, 1940 and he always said he married the prettiest girl in Leon County. Shortly after their marriage she moved to Centerville and joined the Methodist Church to attend worship with her husband. Within a year of marriage, they purchased the house that they would live in for the rest of their lives and where they would raise their three children, Mary Louise, John Truitt, and Sondra Kay. In 1957 she went to work beside her husband at Gresham and Sons store and would work there until 1974. In 1974 she went to work in the Leon County Clerk’s office and became County Clerk in 1984. She retired as County Clerk in 1992.

Mrs. Gresham loved to garden and always had a beautiful lily garden, her favorite flower. John T. always planted her a zinnia garden. She was also extremely proud of her Tulip tree and her red Rain Lilies.

Mrs. Gresham passed away February 2, 2020 at her home following a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Gwendlyn Haynie; her brother, B. A. Haynie and John T., her beloved husband of 78 years. She is survived by her son, John Truitt Gresham and wife, Vicki, and her daughters, Mary Louise Gresham and Sondra Kay Gresham, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
