Fannie Lou Tubbs

Fannie Lou Wallace Tubbs of Centerville, who achieved the milestone of her 88th birthday on December 20, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 29, 2018 in the CHI St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan, Texas.

Fannie was the eldest daughter and one of four children born to James and Alma (Bladen) Wallace on December 20, 1930 in the Middleton Community of Leon County. She grew up in the Centerville area and graduated from Centerville High School in May 1947. Fannie continued to help with the family farm until shortly after finishing high school when she married and moved to Fort Worth.

She engaged in various jobs in the Fort Worth area and eventually, became a caregiver and homemaker. Fannie had a natural knack for gardening and one could always enjoy the seasonal fresh vegetables from her garden. She lost her husband R.T. Tubbs early in life, but she continued to strive to make life better for others. Although a woman of modest means, she loved to bless others with gifts with whatever she was able to afford. She donated many bibles and other materials to anyone she could.

She lived in Ft. Worth until 1988 when she moved back to Centerville to help care for her aging parents. She then reunited with Cairo Baptist Church, where she had been baptized as a child. At Cairo Baptist, she served in a variety of capacities to ensure that anything the church needed was done to facilitate the spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. She could be found cleaning the church, acting as church secretary, or overseeing necessary maintenance work on the church until her health began to fail.

Her hobbies included gardening, quilting, sewing and helping others. Like the Proverbs 31 woman, “Strength and dignity were her clothing” and “she spoke with wisdom” (verses 25 -26). She remained a fiercely independent person to her last days. Yet, she was always quick to provide hospitality and a word of wisdom in due season. She will always be remembered as a loving and caring person who enjoyed blessing others while asking nothing in return.

Fannie was preceded in death by both her parents and husband, R.T. Tubbs. Those who survive her include brothers, Cloyance “Sam” Wallace (spouse Jewell) of Houston and Col. James Wallace of Centerville; sister, Mae Esther Johnson (spouse Elliott) of Iowa City, Iowa and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Homegoing services for Fannie Tubbs will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas. Reverend Dr. Roy Cotton will officiate and present the eulogy. Interment will occur in Burton Cemetery. A public visitation will take place Friday, January 4 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
