The Lord whispered to her to come and rest....
Ethel Lee Young was born on September 3, 1924 to Simon & Caroline Young and was the oldest of ten children. She had resided in Lubbock, Texas since the mid forties where she united with Bethel A.M.E. Church. She served faithfully on the Senior Usher Board and Ma Jones Missionary Society, and took pride in her responsibility of maintaining the tidiness of the church, purchasing her own professional cleaning supplies. Always an avid worker, she enjoyed fishing, gardening, listening to music, playing bingo and visiting neighbors to share fruit from her peach trees.
Possessing a strong work ethic, Ethel generally walked to jobs, and was often seen walking to the bus stop in the cold, snow, and windy weather in order to maintain her independence. Ethel was last employed by Margaret's, an upscale women's boutique, where she retired after almost fifty years. When her health started to decline, she relocated to Leon County in 2011 where her sister, Mary, provided exceptional loving care. Ethel spoke often of her fond memories of Lubbock and will be remembered for her kind and giving spirit, strong work ethic and unwavering faith in God.
On Saturday, February 13, 2021, Ethel's journey ended and she received her great reward. She was preceded in death by her parents, Simon & Caroline Young; four brothers, Richard, W.A., James Ray and Samuel and three sisters, Katie Rollison, Emma Rayford and Helen Jones. She leaves to cherish her unforgettable memories her sister, Mary Liza Cofield; brother, Simon Young, Jr. (Grace) and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
