Erin Virginia Moomey

Erin Virginia Moomey, 93 of Centerville, Texas passed away August 7, 2019. Erin was born on May 4, 1926 to Jessie Mae Culwell and Harold Thomason Moore in Teague, Texas. She was the oldest of three children and had many wonderful memories with her sister, Mollie Jo and brother, Harold R. “Bill” Moore. The children grew up on the prairie in the Guy's Store community of Centerville spending hours in their yard digging for grandpa’s gold, catching lightening bugs in mason jars for light and tying thread on bumble bees to pretend they had little airplanes.

In the 1940’s the Moore family moved to South Gate, CA. Erin graduated from High School there. She went on a blind date and met the love of her life, Charles Ottis Moomey. It was truly a whirlwind romance, and they were married a short 10 days later. Chuck and Erin were husband and wife a loving 59 years.

Most of their married life was spent in Bellflower, California and at their mountain retreat in Big Bear, California. In addition to raising her two daughters, Charlene and Gaylene, Erin was a Brownie leader, Girl Scout Leader, President of the Girl Scout Council, Vice President of the PTA, Toastmasters member, Real Estate Broker and took classes at Cerritos College, all of which kept her busy.

Erin’s next career lasted forty-two years with Mary Kay Cosmetics. After seeing youthful changes in her mother’s skin, she became a Mary Kay Consultant, then a Director and achieved the position of Mary Kay Senior Director. When Erin joined the company there were no Directors in the state. Founder of the Company, Mary Kay Ash was her recruiter/Director which started their personal long-lasting friendship. One day Mary Kay gave Erin a keychain and said, “Now go earn your Pink Cadillac.” Erin was shocked that Mary Kay had set such a high goal for her as she had been with the company such a short time. How could she disappoint Mary Kay? Her real challenge were that her sales were not strong. She only had two recruits and her only customers were her family and friends. Erin put her “Go Give Spirit” to work and introduced Mary Kay to everyone including waitresses, friends at the beauty shop and grocery store employees. That same year at the Dallas Seminar, Erin marched across the stage in her pink Mary Kay suit and Mary Kay, herself, handed her the keys to her first Pink Cadillac. She went on to win 14 more cars during her career.

When Chuck retired, they moved to Centerville, Texas to live on her family’s property in the Guy’s Store community. Their family and friends planned vacations to see what Erin and Chuck's country life was all about and enjoy Erin’s Texas style of cooking. She loved to cook and started a dinner club. It was so successful they had a waiting list!

Their grandson, Brandon (Gaylene’s son), was the apple of their eye when he came to the ranch. Erin held her breath as she watched Chuck teach Brandon to drive the dune buggy, car, truck, ATV, and tractor at a very young age. Erin had Brandon help her make cinnamon rolls and his favorite, biscuits and gravy.

Erin was an active citizen in town as President of the Centerville Chamber of Commerce, did makeup for the 4th of July Beauty Pageant and served as a Director on the Houston County Electric Co-Op.

Erin will be missed by her family and numerous friends all over the United States. Just remember her the next time you see a Mary Kay Pink Cadillac and do what Erin did and put that “Go Give Spirit” into your life.

Left to cherish her memory are brother, Harold R. “Bill” Moore; two children, Charlene Kay Hargrove and husband, Patrick Robert and Mollie Gaylene Moomey and grandson, Brandon Charles Prahm. Close family members include nephews, Lilbern Randell “Randy” Eller, Cody Williams of California, Harold Thomason “Tommy” Moore and Dr. Brent William Moore and wife, Chrissy; niece, Karen Marie Spikes and husband, Lynn; cousin Leslie Ann “Sandy” Ray and husband, Paul Michael; sister-in-law, Harriett Moomey, plus numerous loving great nieces and nephews.
