Elven Lawrence Barnes, 90, of New Waverly, passed away on December 16, 2020. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Priscilla Barnes; stepchildren, Ernest and Chuck Johnson, Grady Chandler, Dorinda Gonzales and Deborah Pool; brother, Pete Barnes; and special friend and pastor, Charlie Young. He did not have any grandchildren, although he loved his step-grandchildren as if they were his own, Jessie, Sabrina, Ashly, Patrick, Shanna, and Amie.
Elven was born January 19, 1930 in Tabor, Texas. He was a resident of Centerville, Texas for thirty years. He loved to fish and watch car races, and he even went to the Indianapolis 500. He was a proud member of River of Life Church in Centerville, Texas and also had a fond love for dogs. Elven was a well-respected veteran of the United States Army, he fought in the Korean War and received a Purple Heart medal.
Elven was preceded in death by his parents, John and Georgia Barnes; first wife, Wanda; seven siblings, and daughter, Shelly Barnes.
A visitation and funeral for Elven will be held Sunday, December 20, 2020 at River of Life Church. The visitation will begin at 12:00 noon until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. Brother Charlie Young will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Heaven’s Gate Cemetery located behind the church.

The family wishes to thank 1st Choice Hospice along with a wonderful nurse and caregiver, Amanda Sherwood.
