Edgar Flowers, age 87, of Centerville, passed away peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior Friday, September 21, 2018 in Madisonville, Texas. He was born April 19, 1931 in Laurel, Mississippi; one of nine children to Johnny Herman and Lilly Lois (Nicholson) Flowers.
Edgar served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged. Throughout his life, he had owned and operated a successful flower nursery, bred and sold Emu’s, worked as a carpenter and was an ordained minister. Edgar loved the Lord and enjoyed singing with his late wife, Bobbie, during church services, sometimes bringing his harmonica to play, as well. Edgar was an avid hunter, fisherman and flower gardener, and he always had a flourishing vegetable garden every year. He had lived in Centerville since 1978 coming from the Beaumont area.
Edgar was preceded in death by both of his parents; wife, Dorothy Louise (Holder) Flowers; wife, Bobbie (Dell) Flowers; son, Dirk Lavon Flowers; brothers, Johnny Flowers, Jr. & James Arnold Flowers; sister, Ila Mae Flowers; grandson, David Wayne Flowers and granddaughter, Paula Murphy.
Surviving family members include children, Randy Flowers (Maggie) of Nederland, Bonnie Koshier (Don) of The Woodlands, Buddy Flowers (Linda) of Vidor; Peggy Reynolds (George) of Centerville; Kenneth Martin (Kathleen) of Houston & Sherry Johnson (Don) of Jewett and sisters, Audie Todd (Bennie) of The Groves, Tommie Jean Fairchild of Alabama, Bobbie Nicole Flowers of Dallas and Kaye Lattin & Faye Hendry, both of Ft. Worth. Edgar is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren & great, great grandchildren, as well as, numerous nieces & nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Monday, September 24, 2018 at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas. Pastor Gary Stutz will officiate the service, assisted by Rev. Tommy Campbell. Interment with military honors provided by the U.S. Air Force will follow in the Sardis Cemetery outside of Jewett, Texas. The family will receive friends Sunday, September 23rd from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the funeral home.
