Eddie Leon Mason, Sr.

September 3, 1922 — March 13, 2017

A homegoing celebration for Mr. Eddie Mason, Sr., 94, of Madisonville, will be held at 12 Noon, Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the Lakeview Baptist Church in Madisonville. The eulogy will be given by Rev. Jackie Gooden. Mr. Mason will be laid to rest in the West End Cemetery with burial honors rendered by the United States Army Honor Guard. A brief visitation will take place from 11 A.M. to 12 Noon Saturday, March 18th at the church.


On September 3, 1922, a baby boy, Eddie Leon Mason, was born to Charles and Lucinda Mason of Rockwall, Texas. Both parents died when he and his other siblings were very young.

He went to live with his aunt and uncle in Pittsburg, Texas, Mr. and Mrs. Elam and Elmira Walton. They raised and loved his with their own children. He went on to graduate from Pittsburg High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served for many years.

He was honorably discharged from the Army and moved back to Pittsburg for several years before he moved to Dallas, Texas. He met and married Gladys Spivey January 19, 1963. To this union two children were born.

He moved to Madisonville in 1963 where he attended the Little Rock Baptist Church for many years. He then moved his membership to Lakeview Baptist Church where he remained a member until the Lord called him home.

Eddie is preceded in death by both parents, Charles and Lucinda Mason; adopted parents, Elam and Elmira Walton; wife, Gladys (Spivey) Mason; son, Hubert Mason; three brothers, Tommy Mason, Mason Holmes and J.W. Pitts and three sisters, Katherine Holiday, Rachel Johnson and Ruby Turner.

Papa, as he is so lovingly remembered, leaves to cherish his memory children, Demita Sweet (Carl) of Houston, Eddie Mason, Jr. (Michelle) of Madisonville, Lawrence Mason of Denver, Colorado and Reva Reeves of Dallas; two sisters, Irene Body and Gladys Burgess of Denver, Colorado; special relative, Tyrone Mack of Denver, Colorado; three sisters-in-law, Serena Wilkins of Van Alstyne, Aneath Pope of Columbus and Prescilla Yell of Waller and one brother-in-law, John Spivey (Lena) of Sugar Land. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Madisonville Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
