Dwane Wilkerson

September 14, 1927 — October 26, 2017

Dwane Wilkerson, 90, of the Redland Community in Leon County, Texas, passed away on October 26, 2017 in Bryan, Texas following a lengthy illness. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 A.M., Monday, October 30, 2017 at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas. Interment will follow in the Centerville Cemetery. A public visitation will take place from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M., Sunday, October 29th at the funeral home.

Dwane Wilkerson was born on September 14, 1927 in the Redland Community to George and Annie (Neyland) Wilkerson. He was raised in Leon County and was a graduate of Concord High School. He later moved to Houston to work and raise his own family. Dwane worked for Joy Manufacturing Tool Company, which later became Cooper-Cameron Corporation. A position as a machinist eventually turned into a multitude of job titles for Dwane through the years. Following retirement, Dwane moved back to the homestead in Redland and lived very near to the old home in which he was born. He enjoyed his retirement to the fullest, often waking in the mornings as the sun came out to watch the cattle, taking naps, eating Blue Bell Buttercrunch Ice Cream for lunch, and watching the cows in the evening as the sun went down. Animals always held a special place in Dwane’s heart. His ever-faithful cat of twenty-six years, “Pityann” will certainly miss her daily choice of treats and being spoiled by Dwane. Dwane’s family will miss their loving father, grandfather and great grandfather dearly.

Dwane was preceded in death by both of his parents; wife, Marie Wilkerson and all of his siblings. Surviving family includes children, Brenda Fougere (Tony) of the Redland Community, Pam Wilkerson Smith of Shepherd, Dwane Wilkerson, Jr. of Conroe and Karen Tayne (Rob) of Coppell; grandchildren, Benjamin Fougere of the Redland Community, Evan Wilkerson of New Braunfels, Isaac Wilkerson of Conroe, Ethan Tayne (Hope) of the DFW Area, Cameron Tayne of the DFW Area and Devin Tayne of Bangkok, Thailand and two great grandchildren. Dwane is also survived by a multitude of nieces, nephews and extended family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cowboy Church of Leon County, P.O. Box 1078, Centerville, TX 75833 or Rufus Refuge, P.O. Box 1385, Madisonville, TX 77864.
